February is here already! While you may be sitting there wondering where January disappeared to so quickly, we're here to help you plan the month ahead and ensure you make the most out of it! It is nearly spring, after all!

So, without further ado, here are our hot picks for February:


Film


There's only one movie we can pick here... of course it has to be The Greatest Showman! A musical with heart that will have you smiling throughout and singing for days.



Music


We're really enjoying the Swedish folk-pop band First Aid Kit at the moment, and their jaunty new album Ruins. Perfect for relaxing vibes on the drive home.



Recipe


We love the look of John Whaite's website, and the food isn't half bad either! We already know he can bake - he did win The Great British Bake Off after all – but we had to find out if he could cook.

We tried the five-hour lamb with potato gratin recipe... and it's beautiful!


Restaurant

If you enjoy steak, then we can't recommend Hawksmoor highly enough! With restaurants across the UK and more accolades than you can shake a rib-eye at, you can't go wrong! Their Sunday roast is truly something to write home about!




Tipple


Gin is back in fashion, and we love the taste and bottle design of Sipsmith Lemon Drizzle Gin!



Travel


If you fancy a trip across the pond, then we love the look of 11 Howard in Soho, New York. This stylish hotel fuses Danish minimalism with New York realness to create a trendy, yet comfortable atmosphere.



A bit closer to home is the Ham Yard Hotel. Again in Soho, but this time the one in London, Ham Yard has a gorgeous urban village feel that we love!



Shopping


If you've missed out on their recent pop-up shop at Liberty, then you can always get your shopping fix online at Rockett St George.



Art


With bold, bright colours and an instantly recognisable comic book style, Roy Lichtenstein's art has become immensely popular over the years. You can see an exhibit of his work now at the Tate Liverpool.



Family Fun


There's only one real choice here for entertainment that will have the entire family – young and old – on the edge of their seats... it has to be Gandeys Circus – The Greatest Showmen Tour! Opening in Liverpool this week, the show will be at Aintree Racecourse from 9th to 25th February.

Origins of the Chinese Circus

200 BC – 200 AD – Han Dynasty, Sichuan Province – Juggler with balls and knives – Carving, stone of the “Hundred Games.” [source: Chinese Acrobatics Through The Ages, p15] The origins of the Chinese circus are not entirely crystal clear. There are debates and differing opinions when it comes to the exact history behind the circus, which is not a surprise when you take into account how long it has been around! First records of the Chinese circus - including carvings and mural paintings - date back more than 2,000 years to the Warring States period (475–221 BC), with evidence of performances developing further during the Qin and Han Dynasties (221 BC - 230 AD). Although it is believed that the art may have actually started around 3,000 years ago! One theory is that the acts originated in imperial courts, with performers entertaining the houses in a manner similar to western court jesters.
