The Lady Boys of Bangkok highlights of 2019!

Image
When our fabulous Lady Boys thought about their highlight for 2019, they couldn't settle on just one and frankly, this year has been an incredible one for our wonderful cast! Not only have we celebrated our 21st year at the Edinburgh Fringe festival (it felt oh-so good to be 21 again), we also had the pleasure of returning to locations we had visited in a while and made our mark in towns and cities we'd never performed in before. After 21 years we're still able to grace new places with our glitz as well as returning to the cities we know and love! Based on all our Sabai Pavillion venues, we've decided to include a highlight from each individual place! We really did have that good a year:   Derby The Greatest Showgirls Tour kicked off with a bang in Derby! Whilst a lot of familiar faces returned to the cast, we welcomed new members Lily, Dew and Arthur to a little family and it's safe to say they've made quite the impression with Lily taking t...

World Fringe Day 2017

Image
World Fringe Day 2017. "The Edinburgh Festival Fringe was the world’s first fringe back in 1947. Fast forward 70 years and there are now more than 200 fringes worldwide. The spark which was ignited in Edinburgh in 1947 has circled the globe and the fringe model has been emulated from Australia to France, Canada to Prague, South Africa to Brighton, China to Brazil, and everywhere in-between. World Fringe Day will take place on Tuesday, 11 July 2017 at the midpoint in the 70th anniversary year. This will be an opportunity for all fringes, venues, participants and audiences across the world to come together to celebrate and to demonstrate the worldwide reach and collective power of fringe." Gandey World Class Productions has been taking shows to perform as part of the Edinburgh Fringe for nearly 20 years and the Brighton Fringe for nearly 15!  So far this year The Lady Boys of Bangkok took their brand spanking new Sabai Pavilion and show ...

Saving the Brighton Hippodrome

Image
Brighton Hippodrome The Brighton Hippodrome was, or should we say is, a lavish full size theatre venue which was constructed in 1897 and hosted ice rinks, circus acts, variety theatre, vaudeville shows and even world renowned bands such as The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. Since it's hay day the beautiful venue has fallen into disrepair. It was used a bingo hall for 40 years, which eventually shut down and since 2007 has been completely empty. In recent years, 2 local groups have rose up to champion the Brighton Hippodrome in an effort to restore it to pasts glories and open it up to the public, if not at full then at least some capacity. These groups are the Our Brighton Hippodrome and Brighton Hippodrome CIC . With the help of local and national trusts, the public and private investors they hope to re-open the hippodrome as a public venue, potentially, given enough investment, as early as 2018.  There are three possible options for restoration: ...

Bangkok Rock

There aren’t many places in the UK that are as culturally diverse and accepting as the southern seaside city of Brighton. I mean there political views alone speak volumes for the tone of the town with The Greens calling the shots at the Brighton & Hove City Council. The streets scream contemporary culture in the narrow meandering lanes and also reflect a bygone era of decadence and royalty, embodied by the regency architecture of the sea front. These contrasting architectural styles are mirrored by the multicultural residents of Brighton, a cosmopolitan utopia within decent travel distance of London what more could you ask for? I sandy beach you say? Well...ok fair enough, it is leaning towards pebbly on the beach spectrum . Nevertheless there’s a reason people (not just pebble fanatics) flock to Brighton year in year out and a reason it, and let’s not forget Hove are the UK’s favourite seaside resort. It’s easy to see the attraction; it’s brimming at ...
