Chinese New Year 2017...

This Weekend, millions of people around the world will be celebrating Chinese New Year.

The 2017 Chinese New Year will begin this Saturday on the 28th of January.

The reason why it falls later than what we know as 'New Year' is because it follows the Lunar Calendar - the beginning of a new moon. Because of this, the Chinese New Year is on different dates every year.

In Chinese tradition each year is named after one of twelve animals

This year, 2017 is the year of the Rooster

According to Chinese belief, the year of the Rooster will bring good health and energy to 2017. Those who are born in this Chinese year are said to be; beautiful, kind hearted, hardworking, courageous, independent, humorous and honest.

Chinese New Year is celebrated across the globe with feasting, family parties and the famous Lantern Festivals and parades. These usually last for around 2 weeks.

In celebration of Chinese New Year, The Chinese State Circus are holding a competition to win this hamper of goodies for the winner to perfect their Chinese cuisine! Complete with Chinese Tea brought over from China from the artistes themselves.

Head over to their Facebook to find out how you can win!
