Madonna turns 60! Here’s 10 reasons why she is the absolute Queen of Pop
Madonna turns 60 this week (Thursday 16 August) and they don’t call her the Queen of Pop for nothing. Here’s 10 reasons why…
1. She has had more UK number one albums than any other female artist
The one with the longest chart life was her greatest hits collection Immaculate Collection, followed by Like A Virgin, Ray of Light and True Blue.
2. And she's had more singles in the top five than any other female artist
The most popular on Spotify being Like A Virgin.
Which in turn inspired this classic scene in Bridget Jones 2.
3. Her influence on fashion is undeniable and NOBODY can own a conical bra like she can
Madonna wore underwear as outerwear a lot during her 'Blonde Ambition' phase |
Or even the patchwork jeans of her ‘Music’ album era… HOW does she still look good in these?
These patchwork jeans: a fashion crime she somehow got away with |
4. She’s been a huge influence on other pop stars. Although Lady Gaga denies everything…
The Lady Boys of Bangkok are big Gaga fans and do a tribute to her in their Wonder Women show |
5. In fact, she’s one of the biggest pop chameleons of all time
6. She made all our pop dreams come true when she duetted with Britney
7. The Queen of Pop was connected to the King of Pop
They may or may not have been an actual item, but it was still a magical moment when they turned up to the Oscars together.
8. Her rise to fame is a proper Cinderella story
She reportedly dropped out of college, came to New York with just $35 in her pocket, and worked at Dunkin’ Donuts before hitting the big time.
9. She's never been afraid of breaking the rules

10. But at the end of the day is still a true pro
So... how is the Queen of Pop celebrating this milestone, her 60th birthday?
The globetrotter partied with locals in Cuba for her 58th birthday – there was even a conga line going on!
And she spent her 59th birthday in Puglia, hanging around with lots of horses (The Spirit of the Horse cast would be proud!)
But for her 60th, Madonna is holding a $60,000 fundraiser for Malawi (where her four youngest children are adopted from).
Meanwhile others have been celebrating Madge is their own ways. We particularly like this eye-catching pop art-style Madonna mural by street artist Pegasus in London’s Shoreditch.
