Top 10 Festive Films...
In the run up to Christmas there’s certain things we do each
year to bring on that festive feeling. We put up Christmas decorations, eat all
of the mince pies, cry in the middle of shopping centres stressing about buying
gifts and of course, watch Christmas films.
To make sure your head is in holiday mode – we have created
a list of the top 10 Christmas films that are guaranteed to make you feel
joyful and ready for the big day.
If you love Tom Hanks like we do, you will love this film as
he basically voices all of the characters (Well, 6 of them). This feel-good
favourite is about a young boy embarking on a journey to the north pole on the
Polar Express, where he finds that life is wonderful if you believe. It’s all
very cheesy and warm and we love it!
9. The Holiday
Need we say more?
This romantic film includes Hollywood stars; Cameron Diaz,
Jude Law, Jack Black and Kate Winslet. The story revolves around two women
(Diaz and Winslet) who want a change in their lives and so swap homes for the
Holidays. If you want an easy watch that’ll make you feel all fuzzy inside this
one is for you.
8. The Snowman
We’ve all heard the song, we’ve all gone ridiculously out of
tune when singing to it. There is no excuse not to watch The Snowman this year
as it is 26 minutes long – that’s it.
It’s magical and as Christmassy as it gets, originally
released in 1982 remained this is one of the classics.
Although more of a romcom, Love Actually is arguably one of
the best Christmas films.
9 lives and 9 stories are intertwined in this romantic
spectacular with some of the biggest names in the biz, including; Hugh Grant,
Liam Neeson, Emma Thompson, Colin Firth, Kiera Knightley, Alan Rickman, Bill
Nighy and so many more.
(You’ve probably already seen it, as it’s shown most weeks on
ITV but we definitely recommend a re-watch, especially if you’re looking to
feel festive!)
This film is so good it’s been made twice. First hitting our screens in 1947 and
again in 1994 both films are just as incredible as one another. Basically it’s
about nobody believing Santa IS Santa, there’s a whole lot of judgement and
tears, but it’s a cracker (get it..?).
5. The Grinch
This adaptation of the tale by Dr. Seuss sees the Grinch,
played by the hilarious Jim Carey, try to steal and ruin Christmas for the
happy people of Whoville.
SPOILERS: It’s a happy ending.
This classic is one of our favourites, we hope you love it
as much as we do!
Originally written by Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol has
had many an adaptation over the years but whichever you decide to watch,
they’re all great! (Our favourites ‘The Muppets Christmas Carol’).
The story tells the tale of Ebenezer Scrooge who is visited
by the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future.
It’s a family favourite and it has a good message – but
mostly, its Christmassy!
3. Home Alone
This film is basically Child Line’s worst nightmare. The
story is based around Kevin (Macaulay Culkin), who gets left behind by accident
as his family go to Paris for the holidays.
We won’t say too much because we don’t want to give the plot
away! But trust us, it’s a must!
2. Elf
Now if you’ve not already seen this one, we won’t judge (we
might a little).
Elf is the story of Buddy the Elf, who grows up in the North
Pole but after realising he’s very different to the other elves he takes a trip
to find his real Father. We won’t spoil anymore, but it’s a must!
Oh, and it’s got Will Ferrell in it.
Despite not being particularly ‘with the times’, this
Christmas film is a corker!
First released in 1946, the film revolves around George
Bailey who has given up his dreams to help others. It’s the ultimate
feel-good-festive treat and guaranteed to make you smile.
