Summer Halloween 2018
SUMMER HALLOWEEN?
What if Halloween was on the 31st of AUGUST!?? Could Summer ever be silly and spooky? Just think about it... trick or treating without the FEAR of rain! It's been oddly warm in the UK this Summer. So here's a few ideas on how Halloween could happen a little earlier.
A carved watermelon on the green grass instead of the typical pumpkin in the fallen leaves.
There's something cool about that pink glow!
When you think of Halloween you immediately think: Horror movies. Well if the sun is still up until late why not think creepy comedies instead. It's a classic but if you've not already seen it... why not? The Addams Family Values. Summer camp got spookier with the addition of the Addams.
Currently showing in cinemas, is a third animated instalment of Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation. Even monsters need a holiday. (It's all smooth sailing on Drac's cruise ship until he falls for a mysterious captain named Erika, who jeopardizes monsterkind!) See, we're getting ghouls on the big screen before the leaves even change colour.
We can all relate to that tagline about needing a holiday after a holiday.
If we're allowed to watch The Nightmare Before Christmas at Christmas, then we're definitely allowed to watch these in Summer. After you've had your carved watermelon flesh (easier to hollow) you can check these out; simply make a few cuts into sausages (under parental or a guardian's supervision) and you've got yourself some fun finger hot dogs to nibble on.
Tomato sauce will always double up as blood.
It's okay to enjoy putting up Halloween decorations as if it were Christmas.
In China and surrounding Asian countries, rooted within Buddhism and Taoism, there's a traditional festival that begins on the 25th August this year: The Hungry Ghost Festival. The festivities begin on the 14/15th day of the seventh lunar month.

'Ghost Month' is hundreds of years old and centres around honouring ancestors. During this period, it's believed that the lines between the afterlife and the living are blurred. The spirits of the dead are said to roam the Earth and should be appeased with offerings such as food or even by burning faux money.
Halloween isn't actually that far away. Have you got any plans? Maybe you're trick or treating, have a party to attend or even hosting one yourself. Why not have something a little different planned.
