It’s Q&A time again, as we anticipate the opening of the Gandeys Circus Greatest Showmen tour: Halloween Spooktacular at intu Merry Hill.

Last time we spoke to tyre juggler Andrey Vovk from Uzbekistan. And this week we caught up with another type of juggler… foot juggler Mariska Gandey!

Mariska is part of the fourth generation of the Gandey family, and is skilled in the art of hair hanging as well as foot juggling. Let's find out some more... 

What’s your ideal Halloween costume?
Mariska likes dressing up as Wednesday Addams.

Let's hope Mariska doesn't get too much into character...

And your best Halloween joke?
“What goes ‘cackle cackle bonk bonk’?
…a witch laughing her head off”


 Phew. I don’t think we’re in danger of 'laughing our heads off' with that joke…

How do you celebrate Halloween?
“Trick or treating!”

Keep a tight grip on that candy bucket Mariska!

Favourite meal?
“My dad’s lasagne”

Mariska’s dad is none other than Phillip Gandey, director of Gandey World Class Productions!
His recipe is strictly a secret, but here's another lasagna recipe we're sure is (almost) as good, from Mary Berry. 

Favourite film?
“Burlesque”

If you were not a circus performer, what job would you do?
Mariska would bake cupcakes and treats!

When The Lady Boys of Bangkok Met.... Geordie Shore!

Fans of the hit TV show Geordie Shore will be pleased to see the return of their favourite stars of the North tonight, for yet another series! Origins of the Chinese Circus

There are debates and differing opinions when it comes to the exact history behind the circus, which is not a surprise when you take into account how long it has been around! First records of the Chinese circus - including carvings and mural paintings - date back more than 2,000 years to the Warring States period (475–221 BC), with evidence of performances developing further during the Qin and Han Dynasties (221 BC - 230 AD). Although it is believed that the art may have actually started around 3,000 years ago!
